What is an Email Outbox?

An email outbox is a temporary holding area for outgoing emails. It contains emails that have been composed, but haven’t yet been delivered to the recipient’s server.

Think of it as a staging area before emails embark on their journey. Emails are stored in an outbox for a few reasons. These include a temporary lack of internet connection, a large email attachment size, or issues with the recipient’s server.

Once the email is transmitted, it’s removed from the outbox and moved to a “Sent Items” folder. Some email clients also allow users to review and edit emails in the outbox.
