How Does SSL Email Work?

The process by which SSL protects email communications is as follows:

    When an email client connects to an email domain server, it initiates a secure connection using SSL/TLS protocols. The server responds by providing its SSL Certificate, which the client verifies against trusted Certificate Authorities.

  2. Exchanges cryptographic keys

    The email client and server perform a key exchange to establish a secure session. This involves generating and sharing cryptographic keys that will be used to encrypt and decrypt the email data.

  3. The data is encrypted

    Once the secure connection is established, all data transmitted between the email client and server is encrypted. This includes email messages, attachments, and login credentials.

  4. The data is decrypted

    The recipient’s email client decrypts the received data using the private key, making the email content readable. The encryption ensures that only the intended recipient can access the email content.
